Georgian Hazelnut Exports on Track for New Records: How Are Prices Changing and Where Is the Product Going?
From August 1, 2024, to June 1, 2025, Georgia has once again reaffirmed its status as a key player

From August 1, 2024, to June 1, 2025, Georgia has once again reaffirmed its status as a key player in the regional and European hazelnut export markets. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the country exported 17.2 thousand tons of hazelnuts during this period, generating $110.8 million in revenue for the national economy. This achievement is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of a 14% year-over-year increase in the export price of Georgian hazelnuts, which averaged $6.45 per kilogram.
This price surge reflects both the rise in global demand and the improved quality of Georgian hazelnuts, enabling producers to position themselves competitively within the European Union. The EU remains Georgia’s primary export destination for hazelnuts — with Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Poland, and the Czech Republic receiving the bulk of shipments. At the same time, Georgian hazelnuts are attracting buyers beyond Europe as well: the product is exported to Armenia, China, Turkey, Israel, Russia, Algeria, and Morocco, demonstrating Georgia’s expanding reach in international markets.
The price increase benefits not only exporters but also the broader agricultural sector, as it incentivizes local production and encourages investment. However, rising prices often bring intensified competition — both domestically and globally — underscoring the need for even higher production quality and standardization.
Today, Georgia’s hazelnut production and export rely increasingly on modern technologies and compliance with European standards, ensuring steady market growth. Meanwhile, export diversification — the expansion into new markets and delivery across different regions — positively impacts the sustainable development of the country’s agricultural sector.
In summary, the recent momentum in hazelnut export volumes, price increases, and geographic expansion of markets demonstrates that Georgian hazelnuts are not only maintaining their position but also capturing new niches on the international stage. This trend represents both economic and social success for the country — one that could become even more robust in the coming years if Georgia continues to prioritize quality, technological advancement, and market diversification.
