On January 21, during a meeting at the White House, Trump, alongside leading technology executives, introduced a new privately funded $500 billion initiative named “Stargate.” The project aims to build 20 new data centers critical to supporting AI technology development.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described this project as “the most significant initiative of this era,” while SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son emphasized that the project became possible following Trump’s re-election.

On his first day in office, Trump’s administration repealed regulations introduced in 2023 by Joe Biden, which aimed to monitor the safety and ethics of AI technologies. Biden’s regulations were intended to mitigate risks such as algorithmic bias or the use of AI by terrorists.

Trump’s approach differs, focusing on the freedom of the tech industry and accelerating its development. However, critics, including technology researchers, believe this approach could lead to a “Wild West” era, where AI product safety takes a back seat.
