Spending Analysis in Restaurants: Comparison Between Tbilisi and European Capitals

According to data published by TBC Capital in February 2025, non-cash spending by residents in restaurants increased by 37% compared to the same period of the previous year, with the average spending amounting to 26 GEL. In the case of non-resident consumers, the annual growth is 33%, and their average spending reaches 109 GEL, which is almost four times higher than the average figure for residents.

Against this background, it is interesting to compare restaurant expenses in Tbilisi with those in other European capitals. For example, in London, the average spending per person ranges from approximately 30 to 60 pounds, which is equivalent to 120 to 240 GEL. In Paris, the average cost per person fluctuates between approximately 30 to 50 euros, which corresponds to 90 to 150 GEL. Meanwhile, in Berlin, the average cost per person is around 20 to 40 euros, or 60 to 120 GEL.

From this data, it is evident that the average spending by residents in Tbilisi’s restaurants is significantly lower compared to that of other European capitals. However, the average spending by non-resident consumers is much closer to the figures observed in European capitals, which may be explained by the differing spending habits of tourists.

In addition, it should be noted that restaurant prices vary significantly across European cities. For instance, in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, the average cost for two people is about 26 euros, which is equivalent to 78 GEL. This is noticeably lower than the figures in Western European cities.

Therefore, the growth of spending by both residents and non-residents in Tbilisi restaurants indicates an increased interest in dining establishments from both the local population and tourists. While restaurant prices in Tbilisi are relatively low compared to other European capitals, the spending of non-resident consumers is closer to European standards, possibly explained by the different spending habits and expectations of tourists.
