Poti Port at Record Pace: Historic Growth in Container and Vehicle Volumes Highlights Georgia’s Logistics Potential

In May 2025, operations at the Port of Poti once again demonstrated that Georgia’s transit and logistics potential is not only growing but solidifying its role as a regional hub. According to APM Terminals Poti, 58,629 TEU containers were processed in May — the highest monthly volume in the company’s history. This result is especially significant against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical and economic shifts in the region that often lead to the rerouting of logistic flows.

From January through May, Poti Port handled a total of 255,944 TEUs, marking a 13.4% increase compared to the same period last year — a clear sign of the port’s expanding activity and the effectiveness of its infrastructure in meeting rising demand. In May alone, the port received 32 container vessels, up from 27 in April and 30 in March, confirming the port’s growing workload and strategic importance.

Particularly noteworthy is the historic peak in the containerized vehicle segment: in May, 7,513 vehicles were processed across 2,527 containers, reflecting a substantial rise compared to previous months (6,134 in March and 6,310 in April). Compared to May of last year, when 6,709 vehicles were processed, this represents a 12% year-over-year increase. This trend illustrates Georgia’s increasing role as a regional hub for vehicle transit and distribution, which contributes to both the growth of port revenues and the strengthening of the country’s foreign trade turnover.

The dynamic growth in container and vehicle throughput highlights Poti Port’s expanding infrastructure capabilities, efficient management, and Georgia’s deepening importance in regional transit. If this pace continues, Poti is on track to become an even more critical international transit center, offering Georgia significant economic and geopolitical advantages in the years ahead.
